General Information

The school has published a number of information booklets which detail most of the information that parents of our students wish to know. These are issued to parents when they enrol their child/children at M.P.S. but are also available from the school for other interested people. Some of the information detailed in these booklets follows in brief form.

SPECIALIST PROGRAMS
In addition to classroom programs, Mooroopna P.S. provides specialist teachers in Art, Library, Learning Technology and Reading Recovery. There is also a Koorie educator who works with all children but particularly the school's 40 or so Koorie students. The school has a modern library with computerised borrowing system, an art room, computer room, hall and a portable classroom which provide excellent facilities for these programs.

ASSESSMENT AND REPORTING
Each child's progress is assessed on a regular and on-going basis. Written reports are sent home in June and December. Parent -Teacher Interviews are conducted and parents are welcome to discuss their child's progress with the teachers at mutually convenient times.

CANTEEN
The school has a canteen offering lunch orders as well as morning recess and lunchtime counter sales. The Goulburn Valley Centre operates the canteen. A designated eating area provides a sheltered and comfortable place for children to eat their lunches. On cold or wet days, children eat lunch in their classrooms.

NEWSLETTER
The school publishes a weekly newsletter, usually on Thursdays. This important communication is sent home with the eldest child from each family.

CONDUCT CODE
A comprehensive Conduct Code booklet clearly sets out the expectations of Mooroopna Primary School in regard to behaviour. Schoolground and classroom rules are clearly defined. A system of positive rewards is used to acknowledge the efforts of students who consistently follow the rules and contribute to a happy and secure learning environment. Aussie of the Week and Month Awards, Ardmona Fruit Products weekly classroom awards, house points, reward stickers, special excursions and events are some of the positive consequences. For those children who choose not to follow the rules, the consequences of their actions are well defined. A "Communication Notice" or "Misconduct Form" is used to inform parents of more serious disruptive behaviour.

SCHOOL UNIFORM
The School Council has determined that all children must wear school uniform while attending school. There are "Out Of Uniform" days declared from time to time as part of some special event. Items of uniform can be purchased from the school. When circumstances prevent uniform from being worn, a note from the child's parent is required. As part of the school's Sunsmart Policy, all children are required to wear a navy blue wide-brimmed hat in terms 1 and 4 for all outdoor activities.
